Guardians of The Galaxy, Marvel Studios' next project releasing on 1 August , has already attracted a lot of attention with it's wacky, witty and pacy trailers and characters. But what do we know about them?

Who are The Guardians?

Well, I am going to answer that very question for you.

There are two versions of The Guardians, one being the 1969 version, with heroes whose names haven't been heard since, well 1969, and then the 2008 version on which we are going to be concentrating. As you know there is always a difference between the comic and the movies and there is a difference in the origins of our Guardians too. The comic version consists of leader Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Adam Warlock and Quasar, and they were formed by Star-Lord for pretty much the same reason as their name states, to guard the Galaxy.

They were brought together to prevent crises rather than reacting to them after they happened. Well, somebody used their head in Marvel for once. The crisis that led to this revelation was the invasion of the Kree Empire. The team disband once they find out that Star-Lord had them hypnotized to join then squad. Star-Lord gets banished to The Negative Zone, an anti-matter, parallel universe by Ronan the Accuser. Ronan is a member of the alien Kree race and a member of the Accuser Corps, who are the Kree equivalent of military governors and jurists. He escaps from there with another Guardian and three storylines later, enters the purple alien from Avengers, Thanos. The Thanos Imperative culminates with The Guardians and the Avengers facing off against Thanos in Earth, a dream Avengers 3 setting.

Knowing Marvel and Kevin Feige, none of what you read above might've even made it into the movie. Let me tell you now, what is in the movie. Peter Quill AKA Star-Lord, was abducted as child and was brought up by a group of thieves called The Ravagers. He goes around from planet to planet hooking up and being the rogue that he is. He steals not knowing its value, the orb potentially being one of the Infinity Stones. Unknown to Quill, the orb was wanted by Ronan the Accuser. Yeah, remember him? The same guy who sent Quill/Star-Lord to The Negative Zone. So to fight off Ronan and his men, Quill is forced into making an alliance with Drax, who has his own vendetta against Ronan, Gamora an assassin trained by Thanos himself, Rocket Raccoon and Groot who are just two friends who go around fighting bad guys. So you see the difference? And now if you see the trailers and soon, the movie, you might be able to connect it with the comics.

The Guardians of the Galaxy hits theaters August 1, 2014.
