Ah, romance. We Harry Potter fans are a romantic bunch - well, love is the truest form of magic, isn't it?

There's stacks of fanfiction filling in the romances could have been but never were. Here's a few Harry Potter hook-ups that I think totally could have happened in the books....

Luna Lovegood - Seamus Finnigan

These two would be so cute together, don't you think? Despite being a little bit...unusual, Luna is a mega-babe. I thought about Dean Thomas or Terry Boot or someone, but then I remembered Seamus Finnegan.

Seamus likes blowing things up and is a kind of comedy character, too, so I figured that the two eccentrics might make a charming sort of couple...

  See? They're both totally mental!

Dumbledore - Grindelwald

Just when I thought I couldn't love him any more, J.K. Rowling confirmed that Dumbledore is gay, and that he was at one point in love with Gellert Grindelwald:

I always thought of Dumbledore as gay. Dumbledore fell in love with Grindelwald, and that that added to his horror when Grindelwald showed himself to be what he was...he was very drawn to this brilliant person, and horribly, terribly let down by him.

I think a few more details of this love affair would have added even more emotional complexity to Dumbledore's back-story, particularly to the tragedy of losing his sister...

Draco Malfoy - Pansy Parkinson

OK, so they went to the Yule Ball together, but is that really the only details of Draco's love life that we get? With his silver-blond locks and moral complexity, Draco is pretty much the biggest Harry Potter heart-throb out there.

Either we need more character to Pansy Parkinson (who I always imagined as a blonde, too) to justify their pairing, or we need to hear about Draco with someone a bit more interesting...

Sparks certainly flew with Hermione...maybe they had a cheeky smooch during a heated argument at some point? I happened in real life (see the article here) so why not in fiction?

McGonagall - Hooch (?) Hear me out on this one...

I don't know who could deal with dating Professor Trelawney, but you gotta admit that Rolanda Hooch is a bit of a catch. Glowing eyes like a hawk, a commanding manner and foxy Quidditch supremacy?

The pool of eligible teachers is pretty small: Slughorn is irritating, Mad-Eye Moody is demented, Trelawney is too intense, Umbridge is evil and Professor Binns is DEAD...Mme Hooch could date McGonagall, I guess? They're both totally badass (and, unlike a lot of fanfic Potter pairings, relatively age appropriate!)

I mean, really - the only teacher romance we get is Hagrid - Mme Maxime and a few Snape flashbacks? No wonder the fanfiction world is so expansive...
