Here we go [Guardians of the Galaxy](movie:424073) has finally come and it was exciting and pure fun! Of all the movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe this was the one that everyone was most skeptical about. The Guardians are a team that are relatively unknown compared to mainstream heroes such as Captain America, Iron Man or The Hulk. There were also the critics who questioned actors like Chris Pratt and WWE wrestler Dave Bautista. Safe to say the critics and the skeptics can all be put to bed! Don't worry no spoilers.

This summer of 2014, films have truly been special. We had 3 amazing films that blew people away like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, X-Men: Days of Future Past and most recently Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. My written reviews of these films can be found on my profile and my video reviews on the same YouTube channel as the video above. Guardians was just as amazing as these other films but had a completely different tone.

The thing that will set Guardians of the Galaxy aside from the rest of the pack is the comedic, off the wall, heartwarming tone that it was given by director James Gunn. Some of the best moments of the film aren't even the kickass action or amazing effects but the quiet moments when the team is together. Whenever the characters of Peter Quill (Star-Lord), Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Groot were given the time to banter with another it was truly comedic gold. It was very much like in The Avengers when personalities of all the heroes would clash like Thor and Tony Stark, Black Widow and Bruce Banner or Captain America with Nick Fury. I loved watching the Guardians come up with a plan or just argue about the percentage of a plan. The actors had the perfect chemistry.

The leader of the group was Chris Pratt who might be known for his more comedic supporting role in Parks and Recreation. From the moment he steps onto the screen with his orange headphones and dances throughout the opening credits you know you're in for a real treat. Pratt makes it look effortless jumping from his sarcastic humor to his dramatic scenes. Many have compared Peter Quill or Star-Lord to Han Solo and I can say that comparison is almost dead on.

The rest of the Guardians were also spot on casting choices from Zoe Saldana as the deadly but vulnerable Gamora to the deadpan stoicness of Dave Bautista's Drax the Destroyer. Two characters that really stole the show with Pratt were two characters that weren't even on set! Bradley Cooper voicing Rocket Raccoon and Vin Diesel voicing Groot. Obviously, Diesel really only said four different words the whole film but the effects of Groot were so great that you didn't even really notice. People were afraid Bradley Cooper couldn't handle voicing Rocket but he showed everybody that they were dead wrong. He brings true wit and charm that'll leave audiences wanting a little raccoon friend. Well... maybe not you get my point.

The amazing performances are just one part of many that was great about the film. Gunn's visuals were quite impressive as he was able to bring a new fun looking sci-fi galaxy onto the screen that looked easy. Wardrobe, hair, makeup, sets, lighting, it was all on point. Heavy CGI films always worry me because I usually enjoy more practical/real movies but Marvel didn't disappoint yet again. The writing can't be denied either as every character was given their special moments so that they were all an equal member of the team. Add on top the fact that the film brought some tear-jerking moments and there really are only a few things this film didn't hit out of the park.

  The dream team
The dream team

Sure, this film is not 100% perfect and there are flaws. My biggest one is that the film felt a little short to me. Perhaps it's because movies like Captain America: The Winter Soldier and X-Men: Days of Future Past ran about 15 minutes longer than Guardians my mind might be used to that length for comic book movies nowadays. I just felt that Act 1 and Act 2 might have been rushed a tad bit before the glorious battle of Act 3. I left the theater wanting more.

That brings me to another argument. Is that actually a good or bad thing in film? Is it good you want more because it leaves you wanting more so that you'll come back for the sequels? Or is it bad because the film didn't feel complete? I'm not sure, what do you guys think? Please comment below and discuss. As for the other tiny issues I felt that Benicio del Toro and Glenn Close's talents were wasted in the film. Not to say they did a BAD job but they were left with roles that weren't major. They were completely overshadowed by the main stars of the Guardians.

What this film also did was do A LOT of setup for Marvel films moving into Phase 3. It's not looking like the Guardians will make their way into Avengers: Age of Ultron but they will return moving towards the huge confrontation between Marvel's finest and Thanos. Thanos is that guy who was in the post credits scene of The Avengers back in 2012 with the purple face. I'll admit I didn't even know who he was really.

Guardians of the Galaxy may just very well be the best film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I'm struggling so much to say it's better or worse than Captain America: The Winter Soldier which just became my favorite this year. The film that was once the most worrisome and questioned of the Marvel Universe can now say it was another home-run by this monster of a franchise that simply CAN'T be matched. I'm looking at you DC. Sorry but you can't top this Marvel train of entertainment.

In case you were wondering. I do give Guardians of the Galaxy my #1 rating which is TREMENDOUS: Going to Buy it the Day it Comes Out on DVD!
