So, I saw the new Marvel film, Guardians of the Galaxy today, and let me tell you.... FAN. TASTIC. At first, the movie is a little sad, so ladies, grab your tissues and prepare for the waterworks. After that, it's action-packed and just plain hilarious. The plot was pretty good, but the main reasons the movie was so great are the characters: Starlord (Chris Pratt, Parks and Recreation), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista, WWE Raw), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper, The Hangover), Groot (Vin Diesel, Fast & Furious), and Gamora (Zoe Saldana, Columbiana). All of the characters were amazing, as well as the actors who gave them life in the real world, but who are they, ya know, "in a nutshell"? Let's start with Peter Quill, a.k.a. Starlord.
He was a troublemaker from the start of the film. This smart-mouthing, player is nothing but a thief and a coward, but at least he knows how to use his sarcasm and metaphors. Speaking of metaphors, they are pretty easy to understand right? That's true for most of us, but not for Drax the Destroyer.
Drax the Destroyer
He takes EVERYTHING literally. For example, when Starlord attempts to use a metaphor on Drax, Rocket Raccoon explains to him that Drax will never get the metaphor and that they just go over his head. Drax, in response says, "Nothing goes over my head! My reflexes are too fast. I will seize it." That led everyone in the audience into a wonderful face-palm. And what of the raccoon who caused this face-palm?
The machine gun toting, genius of a raccoon, Rocket, is a great team member towards the end of the movie, but not so much in the beginning. He is only concerned with money and cares about no one but himself.... and Groot, the giant walking tree and also the cutest creature in the movie.
Groot is a loving, kind, and protective being who is adorably naive, but still cared for by the rest of the Guardians. The only problem he has is... he can say nothing but three words: "I am Groot." These words apparently mean different things depending on how he says them, but of course no one in our world would understand. That doesn't say much for the voice behind the character, Vin Diesel, who went from Fast & Furious to only getting to say two lines (later on in the movie, Groot changes the words a little and says, "We are Groot").
Last, but not least, we have Gamora, the vengeful, assassin who's sole purpose is to be awesome. She kicks butt and shows almost no weakness during the film. Any girl would want to be her. The Guradians of the Galaxy were not the only big names in the movie, however.
Thanos (Josh Brolin, Jonah Hex), a major villian in the Marvel universe, played a small role in the film, and at the end of the credits, no one was prepared for Howard the Duck, who was voice by none other than Family Guy's Seth Green.
Howard the Duck
The movie overall, was very entertaining and I can't wait to see what the [Guardians of the Galaxy](movie:424073) get into during their next adventure. Will Thanos be returning? Will Howard the Duck be showcased? We will all find out in 2017 what Starlord and his crew will be up to. So until then, Auf Wiedersehen!
