Riddick, Alfred, Ygritte and Frodo

Lionsgate has announced the addition of Elijah Wood to the already star packed roster of [The Last Witch Hunter](movie:618999). Classified as a supernatural action movie, it stars Vin Diesel, Michael Caine and Rose Leslie.

That's right, Riddick, Alfred, Ygritte and Frodo are all going to bring to life the story of an immortal witch hunter (Diesel) who partners with a witch. Set in New York City, this unlikely pair are trying to stop the local covens from unleashing a plague upon the city. Directed by Breck Eisner (The Crazies) from a screenplay written by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (Dracula Untold, Gods of Egypt) production is scheduled to begin later this month.

Initially, it seemed out of left field when Elijah Wood began staring in and producing horror movies, but now it seems to be the most natural thing for him to be doing. His horror label SpectreVision will be seeing the release of the horror comedy Cooties, the serial killer drama The Boy, and the horror thriller A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night. (SpectreVision describes itself as a multimedia venture, offering services in the areas of feature films, television, books, comics, music and games.)

Most people identify Wood as Frodo, but my inability to become obsessed with The Lord Of The Rings series has allowed me to easily accept him as a horror fixture. His turn in the 2013 Maniac remake was strangely sympathetic and super creepy at the same time. He also did a fantastic job in Grand Piano where the movie rested all on his shoulders and his ability to sell an increasing feeling of panic and dread. Basically, until he does something completely unforgivable, I am ready to sign up for anything Wood is attached to in the horror/thriller/supernatural genres.
