We all know that the Expendables is a high octane, action packed movie with explosions and dangerous stunts, but how dangerous can those stunts get? It turns out that they can be pretty deadly. Whilst filming the action packed third installment of the franchise, Sylvester Stallone has revealed that Jason Statham narrowly avoided death.
The actor was forced to leap from a truck he was driving before it plunged 60ft into the sea after a stunt went horribly wrong. According to Stallone, the brakes failed forcing Statham to abandon the track mid plunge! Speaking to The Mirror at the London première Stallone had this to say;
He faced death. He was test-driving a three-ton truck and the brakes run out, it went down 60ft into the Black Sea and became impaled. Luckily we had taken the doors off before. If anyone else had been in that truck we would have been dead because we were all wearing heavy boots and gun belts. We would have drowned. But because Jason is an Olympic-quality diver he got out of it.
For those of you unaware about Jason's previous life, Statham actually competed for England at the Auckland Commonwealth Games in 1990 as a diver before venturing into the world of acting, starring in English gangster films such as Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch.
Although playing down the event him self, "I snapped a shoelace in the very first scene," he quipped, when asked what the worst had been. Other cast members weren't so lucky, as Stallone had to have a metal plate inserted into his back after a particularly nasty fall.
[The Expendables 3](movie:388705) is in theaters 15th August, and features an all star cast including Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Mel Gibson and Harrison Ford to name but a few.
