It'll go down in history as one of the most graphic TV deaths of all time, but Sean Bean isn't remotely sentimental about the murder of his character Ned Stark on Game of Thrones.

In fact, in a recent interview, Bean revealed that after filming wrapped in Malta, he and his co-stars enjoyed a kickabout with his newly severed head:

It was a bit strange, yeah, a bit creepy...we just kicked it around like a football!

Bean also admitted that he was as shocked by Stark's grisly end as fans of the show were:

I mean, I knew it was coming, you know? But when I read it, you know, it just comes out of the blue and was a nasty shock. [...] I don't know, you kind of just have to imagine what it's like to have your head chopped off, Anne Boleyn and how she must have felt. But it was the manner in which it was done, it was all the more tragic for that.

Mr Stark may feel some kinship for fellow beheadee Anne Boleyn, but at least he's only a fictional character, which means we still get to look at this:

[Game of Thrones](movie:817617) season five is slated for release in April of next year.
