Sometimes, no matter how cynical or jaded you are, a movie can come out of nowhere and surprise you. Other times, you should really - in retrospect - have seen it coming.

The Penguins of Madagascar is the latter.

The upcoming Dreamworks picture has been on its way for a while now - and while early video clips showed an accomplished, kid-friendly picture, the new full trailer shows...the funny.

As in, the snort laugh-inducing, don't drink soda while watching it kind of funny:

The film sees Rico, Skipper, Kowalski and Private go back to their roots - in international espionage, taking on a distinctly dastardly villain in the form of John Malkovich's evil octopus.

The bigger challenge for the team, though, is the arrival on the scene of top-secret animal crime-fighting organization North Wind, led by a - Benedict Cumberbatch-voiced - wolf named Classified.

All of which, from the looks of the trailer? Going to be hilarious.

[The Penguins of Madagascar](series:755824) is set for release November 26, 2014.
