In keeping with the darker themes of the third book in the Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins, Lionsgate has released new posters depicting the characters of the third installment, Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1, which are dark in theme and design.

Each image is a stark reminder of the weight of the war begun in Catching Fire and of the changes that weight will bring about in each of the characters. Even Effie, known for her colorful clothing and hair, is reduced to a monochromatic waif.

Particularly poignant is Phillip Seymour Hoffman's poster where he poses as Plutarch Heavensby in what was his final acting role prior to his untimely death.

If the posters are any indication, the films will be closer in tone and theme to the books than previous movies were. The final book in the series was one of darkness, pain, and loss and it appears the film will keep these themes more closely than the earlier films did.

What do you think of the character posters for Mockingjay?
