Happy world cat day everyone! In honor of cats around the globe, we have arranged a (non-exhaustive) list of some of our favorite cat characters!
Simba - The Lion King
What makes Simba one of our favorite big screen cats? Did you have a childhood? That's why.
Salem Saberhagen - Sabrina the Teenage Witch
The first of two "human stuck in a cat's body" cats! This sassy, sarcastic fella used to be set on world domination. Now he's fine with a can of tuna and the couch to himself.
The REAL Buttercup - The Hunger Games
Probably one of history's worst casting decisions was made in [The Hunger Games](movie:44466). But Lionsgate made amends when they recast the cat to look the way Buttercup was described. Like, how hard would it have been to get that right the first time around?
Mr. Bigglesworth - Austin Powers Series
Forget chilli dogs, this cat is freakin' freezing! Ahhh that was bad...
Sassy - Homeward Bound
Sassy was an incredibly aptly named cat! She was also voiced by Sally Field making her all the more awesome.
White Cat of Evil - From Russia with Love, You Only Live Twice
Maybe this cat isn't one of the most professional actors around, but hey! I can get pretty fed up too! Bring me more catnip! I'll be in my trailer!
Thomas O’Malley - Aristocats
This cat can sing, dance, and romance the ladies. Everybody wants to be a cat indeed!
Cheshire Cat - Alice in Wonderland
Whether you prefer this guy or the OG 1951 Cheshire cat, he's got to be one of the most puuuuurfectly crazy cats in literary and film history.
Snowball II - The Simpsons
This picture might be Snowball II or...it could be the replacement Snowball II after the Dr. Hibbert hit the first Snowball II with his car. Wow, that was confusing.
Puss in Boots - Shrek films, Puss in Boots
Look at those eyes! LOOK AT THEM! And then remember that he is voiced by Antonio Banderas. He could cough up a million hairballs and I'd still give him a belly rub.
Cat - Breakfast at Tiffany's
Even Holly Golightly couldn't keep herself away from her furry feline friend.
Garfield - Garfield
Comics, television, the big screen. This cat has been everywhere. Not to mention he loves lasagna and is voiced by Bill Murray. So...coolest cat ever I'd say.
Thackery Binx - Hocus Pocus
This scene always made me tear up. Binx was a great cat and an even better brother. Not just because he turns back into that 90's hunk! Be still my tween heart!
Fritz the Cat - Fritz the Cat
Fritz might be a bit more...adult than some of the other cats on this list. This anthropomorphic feline also stemmed from a comic strip, but with a lot more controversy following him due to its satirical sociopolitical commentary.
Ser Pounce - Game of Thrones
This cat managed to survive the reign of Joffrey Baratheon? Props. Mad props.
Crookshanks - Harry Potter series
Like his owner, Crookshanks is insanely smart and can see through a transfigured person. He was one of the first characters to trust Sirius as a dog and distrust Peter Pettigrew while still in rat form.
Si and Am - Lady and the Tramp
These cat villains always scared me as a kid. Who am I kidding? They still freak me out a bit! In any case, this song haunted my nightmares for years, proving the timelessness of the characters.
Mr. Jinx - Meet the Parents
Okay, this cat might have accidentally set a wedding gazebo on fire, but he is also potty trained! Seems like a fair trade-off.
Cowardly Lion - The Wizard of Oz
He walks and talks like a human, but he's soft like a little kitten. The not-so-cowardly Lion might be a bit too big to lay on your lap, but I bet he gives some amazing hugs!
Meowth - Pokémon
Meowth! That's right!
So what do you guys think? Who is your favorite famous cat? If you have a cat in your life, be sure to give them a good cuddle then sit 'em and watch some of these cat-tastic classics!
