Fans of Japanese auteur Takashi Miike (Ichi the Killer, Audition) should be getting themselves prepped for another signature Miike bloodbath! Prior to its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month, Deadline is reporting that the LA-based distributor XYZ has already signed on to handle the North American distribution of Yakuza Apocalypse.
Yakuza Apocalypse: The Great War of the Underworld follows a young yakuza as he learns that his Japanese mob boss is actually a blood-thirsty and murder-proof vampire. Miike is undeniably a modern master of the horror/crime/martial arts mashup, and based on early pictures from this new film, Yakuza Apocalypse isn't looking to be much different. While I was a huge fan of Audition and 13 Assassins, Ichi the Killer and Gozu weren't really my kind of films. However, I have to say that I am really excited for this one!
Miike's new film is being billed as the first "Yakuza vampire movie," which is probably a pretty safe bet. Are you excited for this film? Will you be seeing when it gets an official release? Let me know in the comments, gore-hounds!
