In the meantime, however, let's sum up what we know so far about Halo 5 ahead of the Gamescom 2014 event!
Halo 5 Beta for the Xbox One: What do we know so far?
Halo 5 Guardians will be the first game since Halo 2 to feature a playable character that isn't Master Chief. This will be Agent Locke, a mysterious bounty hunter who is expected to be on the trail of Master Chief. Master Chief has spent his time wandering through the wilderness of the galaxy, possibly in search of a way to restore Cortana, who dies at the end of Halo 4.
We may well see more of the Arbiter, too (a playable character in Halo 2). The trailer for Microsoft's Halo: The Master Chief Collection (which we also expect to hear more about at Gamescom) featured the Arbiter and Agent Locke discussing Master Chief, and it was unclear whether they were speaking as allies or antagonists to the iconic Halo character!

There are a number of side-project that we might hear more about, too, including the [Halo: Nightfall (Digital Feature)](movie:1427493) web series and a Netflix series to be produced by Steven Spielberg!
So Will We Hear Anything More About Halo 5 At Gamescon?
Undoubtedly, Microsoft will be releasing more information about The Master Chief Collection at Gamescom 2014. The multiplayer for the previous games has been remastered, and new online multiplayer maps could well be released to the public.
But will we see anything about Halo 5? Well, Microsoft are playing their cards very close to their chest at the moment. Previously, they revealed that a Halo 5 Guardians Beta would be released in December of this year, but were cautious about promising any more details of Halo 5.
Speaking at E3 this year, developer Bonnie Ross said that Halo 5 was:
not just about creating a game, it’s about telling Chief’s full tale.
At this point in time, though, so few details are known about where Master Chief is or what he is doing, that Microsoft may decide now is the time to drop fans a few more hints.
Halo 5 Speculation: Release Date delay, and the Oculus Rift
Some fans have been speculating that if there is no Halo 5 Guardians reveal at Gamescom, this means Microsoft have delayed the release date of the project, but this might not stand up to scrutiny. For a long time, The Master Chief Collection has been planned as an appetizer for finally seeing Halo on the next-gen Xbox One, and with the beta release in December, there is no reason to believe there may be a delay.
Another sea of speculation was David Ellis of 343 Industries posting on Twitter about the Oculus Rift.
I have my Oculus DK2. What are the absolute best optimized demos I should download?
Could Halo 5, or some future Halo title, feature virtual reality content? Only time will tell.
