We have already heard about Assassin's Creed Unity, the upcoming game from Ubisoft Montreal that will involve detailed co-op mode, and be set on the bloody streets of Paris during the French Revolution. What you might not know is that there is another game soon to be released by Ubisoft. It may be officially announced at the currently ongoing Gamescom 2014, and it is said to be the missing link connecting the story of Unity with the previous [Assassin's Creed](movie:437814) title, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.
Assassin's Creed Rogue
Assassin's Creed Rogue (previously subtitled "Comet") is an interesting new twist on the familiar format. Instead of playing an Assassin battling against the mysterious Templars, you now play an Assassin who has "gone rogue", that is, one who has turned from Assassin to Assassin hunter.
Take a look at the leaked Assassin's Creed Rogue teaser trailer here:
You play Shay Cormac, an Irish sailor who commands the ship Morrigan, and the action is set on the icy waters of the north Atlantic Ocean. Unlike Edward Kenway's Jackdaw, the Morrigan is able to navigate rivers. There are also new features such as ignitable oil slicks you can leave on the water, rapid fire cannons and the chance of enemies boarding your ship.
Shay Corman is an interesting character. He feels betrayed by the Assassin's Guild, and has been given near limitless resources by the Templars with which to hunt them down. His actions are said to play a key role in ending the American trilogy of games which began with Assassin's Creed 3, and moving the storyline more towards France, the setting for Assassin's Creed Unity.
Gamescom 2014: Will we see Assassin's Creed Rogue at the PS4 event?
It is widely suspected that Sony are making another Ubisoft title a key part of their PS4 event at Gamescom 2014, so it could well follow that we get to see something of Assassin's Creed Rogue, too.

But what features can we expect from this game? Well the short answer is that at the moment, we don't really know. Assassin's Creed Unity, a game which movies the action back to a city after the near open-world of Black Flag, is said to have at its focus a new co-op mode, as well as an increased emphasis on stealth. Rogue is not expected to feature co-op to the same extent, and so we could see this game, in gameplay as in story, act as more of a link between Black Flag and Unity than to provide anything significantly new.
Than again, we could all be shocked by what is revealed at the Gamescom 2014 event, so let's not speak too soon.
