I always loved Robin Williams, but I didn't realize quite what an amazing person he was. Obviously, he was a gifted comedian - but Robin Williams should be remembered just as much for being a great friend.

His closest, oldest friend was the original Superman, Christopher Reeve.

Robin and Christopher met in 1973, at Juillard School.

Christopher cared for his friend so much, he actually put food on his table:

Him being such a great friend to me at Juillard, literally feeding me because I don't think I literally had money for food or my student loan hadn't come in yet, and he would share his food with me.

Robin and Christopher also made a bold pact that whoever made it big first would take care of the less fortunate one.

These are guys who kept their promises.

After Reeve's tragic accident in 1995, Williams was there for him. He supported the family, offered to cover medical costs...and played the most loving prank possible!

Robin swept into Reeve's room hospital room dressed as a doctor, proclaiming loudly in a Russian accent that he was going to perform a rectal examination on him! Reeve fondly described the joke in his biography:

For the first time since the accident, I laughed. My old friend had helped me know that somehow I was going to be okay.

What an amazing friendship.

Robin Williams was a man who dedicated time, energy and love to those around him, someone who valued friendships, kept promises and acted according to what he thought was right.

Rest in peace Robin, our thoughts are with you and your family.
