So by now all of you who are TMNT fans have seen the movie. Some people hated it, some liked it, and some were indifferent about it. Regardless of how you felt about the movie it has already been announced that it is getting a sequel in 2016. So in honor of that, I took the liberty to compile a list of what the sequel should include to please both the fans & Paramount.
1) Include more mutants/characters
We've had several live-action movies made for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but we've only had two other mutants show up on the big screen (three if you count Super Shredder). Yet there are still many other mutants and characters that fans would love to see on the big screen; to name just a few:
One of the biggest problems people had with the movie was Megan Fox as April O'neil. It's not that she did a terrible job, it was that there are so many other actresses who could have done a much better job. The other issue people had was the movie focused too much on her. Which would not have been so bad if she could actually act! Recasting her shouldn't be too difficult, there have been several movies where they recast main characters for the sequel ex; The Dark Knight (Rachel), Iron Man 2 (Lt. Col Rhodes) & even TMNT II Secret of the Ooze (APRIL O'NEIL).
Here are some other choices for the part:
Or you know... just about anyone else!
3) Focus on the Turtles
I can't believe I need to say this, but a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie should focus on the Turtles! This is the same problem people have with the Transformers series. The movies focus on the human characters and the characters who should be the main focus are just in the background! This needs to stop, the Turtles in this movie were actually the best part of the movie. They had the unique personalities of each individual Turtle, while still behaving like teenagers. Now if they could just make a movie that has these Turtles in center-stage (like the 1990 TMNT movie) then we will have a fantastic movie!
The Turtles and Splinter are interesting characters on their own, the human characters can be there but they shouldn't take away from the Turtles. While the Turtles were funny and entertaining, the audience did not learn too much about them. The sequel should flesh out their characters so that the audience can relate more with their favorite Turtle (come on, everyone has a favorite).
4) Use different story lines
Every live-action TMNT movie is at fault in this area. Aside from changes to the setting or the introduction of different characters, every live-action TMNT movie is the same. It's about Shredder being evil and the Turtles have to stop him. Let's mix it up shall we? In this sequel the Turtles could face off new enemies (ie. The Punk Frogs, Blotch, The Rat King or the Krang). There is a rich history of TMNT story lines and villains. It should not be too difficult to find some and make a movie inspired by them. There is no need to constantly go back to Shredder and him terrorizing New York!
