While this first circulated around the internet last year, in light of the recent [Guardians of the Galaxy](movie:424073) Easter eggs we thought it’d be fun to revisit this! A little over a year ago, Marvel’s "Avengers" #7 was released. One reader found a fantastic potential crossover thrown in. Take a good look at the picture below:
Anyone look familiar? That bone structure is reminiscent of the immortal, vortex-manipulator-wearing, Time Agent Captain Jack Harkness!
I know, just because there’s a character that bears a striking resemblance to a [Doctor Who](series:200668) and Torchwood character doesn’t prove anything. But Allons-y! my dear friends, down further into the Marvel rabbit hole! Here’s another screenshot**:
Yup, I’d recognize those sideburns and (only slightly different) brainy specs anywhere.
Hello, Doctor! Any doubt behind the connection is quickly dispelled by taking a closer look at the character’s phone case.
Whether or not these are actually supposed to be the Doctor or Captain Jack, it's great seeing Jonathan Hickman and Dustin Weaver include the Whoniverse in their work.
Much to the disappointment of fans, a crossover between the two storylines never came to fruition. Redditor IsaakCole confirmed that the appearance of the Doctor was a red herring. His speaking role implied that he would become activated as Star Brand during the White Event to protect the earth. However, because of a broken selection system, Kevin Connor is selected instead.
Yes, we know that it's a stretch to make the Doctor a college-aged student, or with a father nonetheless, but it could be another "Human Nature" type situation (Whovians, you'll get it. Everyone else...click the link)!
**Notice he has an apple on his tray and NOT A PEAR!
Although there is currently no Marvel/ [Doctor Who](series:200668) crossover in the works (that we know of), it’s a pretty fun Universe to imagine. Since Titan Comics recently released their two ongoing Doctor Who series with the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors, maybe we'll be able to see them return the favor. It's not hard to imagine the Doctor striding out of his TARDIS to smack Star-Lord upside the head for messing up the wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey...or to offer him his machine that goes ding when there's stuff. Maybe we should just start petitioning James Gunn to have a TARDIS hidden away in the next storehouse of The Collector in [Guardians of the Galaxy 2](movie:1081113)!
The Doctor, Rose, Jack, and Mickey had a cameo in "Avengers" #7! And the completely nerdy part of me is having fun speculating what an actual crossover might look like.
