Like the Wonder Woman vs Ms. Marvel debate among fans, the debate as to which studio will succeed at producing the first Atlantean-based superhero has been an ongoing topic among the comic book fans. While Marvel has recently confirmed that they'd definitely be the only studio able to produce a Namor movie and multiple scripts have been written in the past, it now looks as though DC's Aquaman might just beat Marvel to the bigscreen.
Will Beall and Kurt Johnstad have been hired to pen two separate scripts for an Aquaman movie, meaning ideas from both scripts will likely be used in the final cut of the movie. Will Beall has previously worked on Gangster Squad, while Johnstad is best known for his writing on 300. The announcement also comes alongside the news that the Aquaman movie will be one of the nine mystery release dates announced by Warner Brothers.
While Warner Brothers still hasn't officially confirmed Jason Momoa's casting as Aquaman, its been widely accepted that the actor will be playing Aquaman as, at minimal, a cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and would undoubtedly reprise the role in an Aquaman solo film. Is an Aquaman film before a Wonder Woman film really a good idea? Will Aquaman's solo film beat Marvel to a Namor solo film, or does Marvel have some tricks up its sleeve?
