Huge news, (puny human) Turtles fans: Krang is back!

Or, at least, it sounds as though he'll be on his way soon.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' director Jonathan Liebesman and producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form recently spoke to Screen Rant about the chances of everyone's favorite overlord from Dimension X appearing in the already commissioned sequel - and at the moment, it's all sounding good for the brain-shaped alien warlord.

Asked about the series visiting Dimension X, from whence Krang came, Liebesman was...pretty clear about his feelings on the subject:

F*ck yes...I would love to...I mean it's not up to me. It's up to all of us to decide."

To which Fulller, thankfully, added:

"But we’ve talked about those worlds already"

And, as Form confirmed:

"There are scripts that have been written for this movie that integrated those worlds into it already…"

Which means that, odds are, Krang is on his way. Which, considering his importance to Turtles mythology - especially for fans of the original animated series - isn't too much of a surprise.

He was, after all, the Turtles' biggest bad in the animated series - and the source of most of Shredder's schemes. His origins, though, lie very much in Dimension X, where he was usually a deranged warlord who was - depending on the origin story you go with - separated from his original lizard-like body and banished to Earth as a brain.

Upon arrival, he set about trying to take over the world - as you do - and teamed up with Shredder, who he housed in his giant Technodrome in exchange for the villain building him a giant exo-suit to walk around in:

He was also, though, more-or-less comic relief in the series - with only his comic appearances really touching on the dark, entire species-destroying backstory. You'd have to think that if he appears in the film series, he'll take on a tone much closer to the comics - rather than a cackling, hissing comedy brain:

So, instead of this:

Expect something a little closer to this:

Which, combined with the team behind the movies also teasing the likely arrival of Casey Jones, Bebop and Rocksteady, suggests that the upcoming sequel could be seriously good news for fans of old-school Ninja Turtles...

[Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2](movie:2181585) is due to be released in 2016 - hopefully featuring Krang.
