Will Beall (Gangster Squad) and Kurt Johnstad (300: Rise of an Empire) have been hired to write two separate scripts for Warner Bros. upcoming Aquaman solo film. This will be one of the installments in Warner Bros.’ multi-movie plan to create a cinematic universe based on DC Entertainment characters.
The Aquaman film is currently being developed on dual tracks, in which studios hire two different writers in the hopes of putting together the best possible version for the big screen. This allows release dates to be set while a project is still in development while giving it a muscular push. This is something Warner really needs as, just last week, they dated nine untitled DC movies between 2016 and 2020 in addition to Zack Snyder's Batman v. Superman.
While Warner Bros. is not revealing which slate will be occupied by the Aquaman solo flick, we do know that the first untitled DC Comics movie is due for release on Aug. 5, 2016, with two more due in 2017, on June 23 and Nov. 17, respectively.
Yesterday, Variety confirmed that Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) had officially signed on to play the King of Atlantis in Batman v. Superman, which will see a release in March 2016.
