Getting a Number 1 album doesn't seem to be that big of a deal these days (I mean, who actually buys albums anymore? Amiright kids?). However, combine a Number 1 album with a Number 1 movie and now we're onto to something.

[Guardians of the Galaxy](movie:424073) doesn't seem content just to smash the box office, as its soundtrack album, Awesome Mix Vol. 1 has just hit the top of the US's billboard 200.

The album, which features a mix of classic pop and soul songs from the '60s and '70s, - including songs from the likes of Blue Swede, David Bowie and The Runaways - has apparently been selling like crack-filled hot-cakes, no doubt thanks to the huge box office success of the film.

The Billboard Twitter account recently announced the news:

Of course, this isn't just a simple soundtrack, it is also a prop from the actual movie. The 'Awesome Mix' is a beloved family relic from Earth owned by the intergalactic space adventurer, Peter Quill AKA Star Lord. Furthermore, as director James Gunn explained, the soundtrack also follows the story of the film quite closely, so in this sense this is more than just your usual compilation album.
