If you can't imagine The Vampire Diaries without Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev or Paul Wesley, you might be turning your back on the show for good when season 7 arrives.
According an exclusive scoop by E! Online, the big three of [The Vampire Diaries](series:200853) have been in talks with Warner Bros. Studio, but only two of them have agreed to sign a contract for season 7.
The remaining star (either Ian, Nina or Paul) is unsure whether they want to continue with the hit CW series, according to multiple insider sources who have been present at the talks.
But, what would this mean for the future of TVD?
Earlier this year at SDCC executive producer, Julie Plec, explained that;
I think the show will go as long as the actors want the show to go on. You know, look, everybody's under contract. I know that we've got plans for season six, we've got plans for season seven. I know that our bosses have plans for seasons eight, nine, and 10. I said I want to be part of it as long as I know I could keep telling good stories and as long as the ensemble people that I work with want to be there and are committed and dedicated. So, so far so good, you know. We'll see how long we can stay, doing it well. We'll make sure that we don't start sucking
Although Plec seemed positive about the future of The Vampire Diaries just a few weeks ago, things have changed significantly since one main cast member has decided to throw in the towel.
If Julie Plec stays true to her word and decides to only be a part of TVD while the cast "want to be there and are committed and dedicated", then maybe her time as the puppet master of Mystic Falls could be up. Or, there is the almost unthinkable possibility that it could be the end of the road for our favourite supernatural TV show.
But, the question on everyone's lips at the moment is "which cast member wants out?" So, lets investigate...
Career: Since swaggering onto our screens as the delectably delicious Damon Salvatore, Ian Somerhalder has had a few other outings on both the big and small screen.
Somehalder appeared in the Scott Culver comedy How to Make Love to a Woman in 2010 and played a police officer in 2013's Caught on Tape.
Most recently, Ian has played the villain in [The Anomaly](movie:983906), directed by Noel Clarke.
Ian's movies tend to slump around the lower end of the IMDB rating scale, but his best know performance outside TVD is indisputably playing Boone Carlyle in Lost.
Personal Life: It can't be easy working on TVD for Ian Somerhalder. The 35-year-old actor previously dated his co-star, Nina Dobrev, and it's rumored that he was the dumpee.
Somerhalder is now dating Nikki Reed of Twilight fame who was previously a close friend of both Ian and Nina...
Maybe he want to extract himself from this tangled knot once and for all?
Other Obligations: Ian Somerhalder might be a top drawer actor, but his true passions might lay elsewhere.
Through his TVD fame, Somerhalder has became a huge social media presence and he uses his highly recognisable face for good.
Ian is at the helm of The Ian Somerhalder Foundation which aims to raise awareness about environmental issues.
Recently, he announced that work would begin on creating his very own enormous animal sanctuary to provide a safe refusge for abandoned or abused animals.
Maybe he just doesn't have time for TVD anymore with his enormous array of altruistic interests.
Career: Nina Dobrev was probably the most recognizable member of TVD crew when the show began thanks to her role as Mia Jones in Degrassi: The Next Generation.
Since stepping out as both Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce in Mystic Falls, Nina has bagged herself some surprisingly diverse roles.
The 25-year-old actress played the part of Candace alongside Emma Watson in 2011's The Perks of Being a Wallflower and is currently enjoying box office success with [Let's Be Cops](movie:885786).
Dobrev will take the leading role in [The Final Girls](series:1118653) , a horror flick due to be released in 2015.
Nina Dobrev has also tried her hand at a few sneaky little voice spots including portraying Louis' high school bully in [Family Guy](series:200536) and appearing in an episode of Seth Rogan's Robot Chicken.
Personal Life: Nina Dobrev is currently single, despite what the press might say!
As mentioned above, she previously dated Ian Somerhalder and, although the pair are reportedly good friends, maybe this is still a cause of awkwardness and tension behind the scenes...
Other Obligations: Unlike Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley who both have career goals outside of the acting sphere, Nina Dobrev is focused exclusively on her acting career.
Career: Paul Wesley's career choices outside TVD are decidedly more left of field and Indie than those of his contemporaries.
Wesley had a leading role in Shawn Christensen's Before I Disappear which was a feature length movie based on his Oscar winning short, Curfew.
He has also taken cente stage Indie movies such as 2014's Sam and Amira and more maistream offerings such as the The Baytown Outlaws alongside Billy Bob Thronton and Eva Longoria.
Of all of TVD actors, Wesley's back catalogue is the most critically acclaimed and his acting has won him glowing reviews in feature length flicks.
Personal Life: Paul Wesley is dating Phoebe Tonkin of The Vampire Diaries spin-off, [The Originals](series:833141).
Other Obligations: Paul Wesley has a growing interest in the field of directing and he has a passion for working behind the camera.
After making his directorial debut on TVD in the episode 'Resident Evil', Wesley has gone on to direct a PSA about immigration featuring his Polish grandparents. He told Hollywood reporter that;
It's [directing] something I've always wanted to do ever since I started acting. I've always really respected directors. As much as I was interested in acting, whenever I watched a film it was always the directing that really stood out to me. I always envisioned doing it at one point or another.
Who do you think wants to leave The Vampire Diaries?
