Saw V director David Hackl has turned to Kickstarter for his latest film, Earthworks, a horror film set in the fog of battle in World War 1. The UK based production team and Hackl are turning to horror and indie film fans directly on social media. This film has a rather unusual story and setting and deserves the attention of the crowd-funding friendly horror and indie fans, especially as a genre veteran is on board to direct.
David Hackl designed the Saw franchise before directing Saw V. He has recently directed Grizzly, starring James Marsden and Billy Bob Thornton, which is to open in late 2014.
Hackl envisages a strong psychological element to Earthworks which requires a strong classical film-making approach. The horrors faced by young and inexperienced US soldiers at the front provides a chilling subtext. Hackl does not intend to flinch from the realities of war but will still deliver a film that meets the needs of horror fans.
The film will star Daryl Sabara of Spy Kids & John Carter, and Michael Zegen from The Walking Dead and Boardwalk Empire is also on board.
Also attached is fresh face Adam Butcher who won critical acclaim for his lead performance Dog Pound.
The rewards on offer include signed storyboards, interactive scripts, app games, Skype sessions with the director, the chance to play an extra (travel and accommodation included on this item!) and even producing credits. Pledges start at £1 or $1.67.
