Great news for people who love vampires, plagues, eclipses, blood worms and bad hairpieces! FX has renewed The Strain for a second season. The thirteen episode season will debut summer of 2015. Perhaps this is the summer substitute that we needed with the departure of True Blood?
According to FX CEO John Landgraf, "We've never had any doubts about 'The Strain'. Working with Guillermo del Toro, Carlton Cuse and the brilliant cast led by Corey Stoll has been everything we had hoped it would be and more. It is thrilling when you have a show that is a creative and commercial hit, which is a rare accomplishment in this increasingly crowded marketplace. We look forward to having it on FX for as long as Carlton, Guillermo and Chuck Hogan need to tell this epic tale."
Wow! That is a pretty bold statement. While The Strain is currently the number one new cable series, let's hope it doesn't overstay it's welcome like another Cuse helmed series did. ( Come on, Lost was three seasons too long.)
The mastermind behind this vampire plague was quoted as saying, “I am thrilled! Another season to spread the virus!” said del Toro, who directed the pilot and co-wrote the best-selling books along with Chuck Hogan. “Working with Carlton, Chuck and FX has been immensely rewarding and we have such sights to unveil in the upcoming episodes — the blood hits the fan on this one, mankind becomes an endangered species."
Though it took this viewer a few episodes to settle into The Strain, it has turned into an engaging, exciting and gross (that's a compliment) Sunday night treat. How do you feel about this news? Are you dancing on the ceiling with joy?
