It's a good day for Kevin Smith fans, as he shows no signs of stopping after the release of his upcoming horror-comedy Tusk.
He's confirmed that Tusk will be the first in a trilogy of films inspired by Canadian urban myths dubbed 'True North', and the second instalment is shaping up to be all kinds of awesome.
With long-time friend and collaborator Johnny Depp, plans are being laid for Yoga Hosers, starring their respective teenage daughters Lily-Rose Depp and Harley Quinn.
Smith is billing this as his comic book breakthrough:
People always ask me 'Are you ever going to make a comic book movie?'. This is it — but instead of yet another dude saving the day, our antiheroes are the most feared and formidable creatures man has ever encountered: two 15-year-old girls.
The movie promises to be as weird and wonderful as Tusk, which was inspired by a spoof Gumtree post by an English comedian offering free bed and board to someone willing to dress as a walrus.
Yoga Hosers stars Quinn and Depp as two 15 year-old yoga obsessives who work in a Manitoba convenience store called Eh-2-Zed. When a devilish villain rises from beneath the city and threatens their invitation to a 12th Grade party, the girls join forces with a man-hunter from Montreal (Johnny Depp) to battle the forces of evil.
Almost all of the cast are returning for Yoga Hosers, including Justin Long, Michael Parks and Haley Joel Osment.
Quinn and Depp appear as the same characters in Tusk, and you can spot them around the 47 second mark in the trailer:
Tusk is released September 19, while principal photography for Yoga Hosers begins this week.
Smith and Depp aren't the first to keep it in the family. Here's five more famous family movie ties:
1) Nicolas Cage
He may have had a tactical name change as a young actor, but make no mistake that the famously hit-and-miss actor is extremely well connected. Born Nicolas Kim Coppola, he's the nephew of Francis Ford Coppola and cousin of Sofia and Roman. Some of his earliest movies like Rumble Fish and Peggy Sue Got Married were directed by his esteemed uncle.
2) The Smith Kids
Will Smith had no qualms about turning his kids Willow and Jaden into two of the biggest child stars around. Jaden starred alongside his father in The Pursuit of Happyness, while his sister followed suit in I Am Legend.
3) Tatum O'Neal
The famously troubled child star of Paper Moon remains the youngest to have ever won an Oscar, starring alongside her father Ryan O'Neal. After a serious heroin addiction and claims of abuse by her father, O'Neal's career has never recovered.
4) Dakota Johnson
The star of Fifty Shades of Grey is the daughter of actors Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, and the granddaughter of Hitchcock favourite Tippi Hedren.
5) Charlie Sheen/Emilio Estevez
Back in the 80s, Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez were two of the biggest stars to come out of The Brat Pack. Sheen was born an Estevez, but took his father Martin Sheen's stage name when he decided to become an actor too.
