It has been quite some time since we have heard of Fruitvale Station boss Ryan Coogler’s latest project, Creed; the seventh installment in the Rocky franchise. At this time last year we knew that Ryan Coogler would be both writing and directing the film, Sylvester Stallone would reprise his role as Rocky Balboa, and Michael B. Jordan was eyeing the lead role of the late Apollo's unnamed grandson.
It is believed that the movie was put on hold due to the filming of the Fantastic Four reboot, in which featured Michael B. Jordan plays Johnny Storm/The Human Torch. Now that filming has been completed, Jordan has confirmed his involvement in Creed. In regards to his future projects, Jordan tells magazine The Source:
Creed’s another one... Yeah. That’s definitely happening, for sure... I’m not going to let you guys down. I know that there’s a lot of Rocky fans out there and I’m one of them. So from one fan to another I’m gonna make sure we do a good job with this. Sly’s not gonna let anything happen to his baby.
Good to know. Good to know.
Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing this very much. Rocky was originally created as a means for Stallone to express his feelings as an unknown artist trying to earn success. Seeing this story essentially retold from the mind that brought us Fruitvale station has the potential to be something great. Even if it isn't, we can probably look forward to a bitchin' soundtrack and training sequence to match.
Creed is coming to theaters god only knows when. Meanwhile, enjoy a Rocky not-so-fun fact: The Italian Stallion is also the name of an erotic film starring Sylvester Stallone that was released in 1970. Seriously. Look it up. Or don't. Your call.
