Some sources are reporting that Jenna Coleman, a relative newcomer to the [Doctor Who](series:200668) universe, is soon to leave the popular sci-fi television show.
Being the latest in a long line of companions to aid the good Doctor, it comes as somewhat of a surprise to hear that the 28-year-old actress has decided to hang up her traveling shoes after just a year and a half on the job, which, according to The Daily Mirror, will happen this Christmas.
Thus, it is entirely possible that, should the character of Clara Oswald move on, we may be seeing a new companion alongside Peter Capaldi sooner than we thought. A source has informed The Daily Mirror:
"The conversations about Jenna's exit have started, and a plan is in place which is being ironed out…By the time she leaves she will be one of the longest-standing companions ever. She has been absolutely brilliant in the role, but everyone agrees it is a part that should change after a period."
The source also pointed out that this was "very much a mutual decision." They also went on to add: "It's important to keep the series moving and fast-paced, and the time is just starting to feel right and the feeling is that it could be a perfect Christmas storyline."
There have been almost 60 companions since the show launched in 1963 and have included the likes of Karen Gillan as Amy Pond, Catherine Tate as Donna Noble and Billie Piper as Rose Tyler.
In any case, the dismissal of Jenna Coleman will finally put to rest any further speculation as to whether or not her character would have a romantic liaison with the 56 year old Capaldi, who takes up the role of Doctor Who in Season 8, which kicks off this coming Saturday.
So, Whovians, will you be sad to see Coleman exit the show, or does someone like Capaldi necessarily need someone as a companion?
