While nothing has been confirmed yet, it seems that Blizzard Entertainment has plans to include a tribute to Robin Williams in their upcoming World of Warcraft expansion, Warlords of Draenor.

Earlier this month, after the earth-shaking news of Williams' death surfaced, fans who knew him to be an avid gamer (who loved WoW and often joked about his addiction to the game) kicked off a petition to include a tribute via an in-game NPC (non-playable character). The petition suggested that his character's design and personality drew inspiration from his various roles, telling some of his classic and most memorable jokes of all time.

This didn't go unnoticed by Blizzard - Chadd Nervig, Technical Game Designer on World of Warcraft responded to a player after being asked about the petition.

It seems as though Blizzard is making good on this. Recently, while datamining the expansion, a popular fansite known as Wowhead found some interesting shots and animations of a new character known as "Robin the Entertainer":

The first model (and the only animated one thus far) is a very obvious nod to Genie - and while it's worth noting that the model has been used for development on previous games, this particular genie was found within a file titled "Robin", alongside two other characters. Whether the development team is considering revamping this model or scrapping it completely is unknown.

Still, Robin's character being a shapeshifter of any sort would open the door to more character nods, so re-using the model (which appeared as a boss in Cataclysm) would make sense; Genie can transform into anything he wants to be, after all.

While Nintendo was also asked by fans to include a tribute to Williams in an upcoming Legend of Zelda game (noting that Williams named his daughter after the princess in the story), the company did not confirm or deny whether or not they would commit to it. They did, of course, offer a heartfelt tribute in a statement on Robin Williams, noting how closely he and his daughter worked with the company.

Williams was a dedicated gamer and shared that with his family - one of the things that hits home for this writer, and many gamers across the world. With that said, here's an incredible and sweet commercial featuring both Robin and Zelda Williams:
