Earlier this week, while jotting up my ranking of the best Bruce Wayne portrayals in film (which was really hard, let me tell you) I realized that almost none of the previous men to don the cowl were truly accurate to the character. whether it was physically or via personality, each actor had something that edged them out of a perfect score.
This led to a mental tirade, where I racked my brain to think of someone, anyone who could do the role perfect justice. Then it hit me: Brosnan.
The classic James Bond actor had everything it took to play DC's playboy billionaire: good looks, finesse, breeding, and the body.
Around the time Burton's Batflicks were being made, Brosnan was gearing up for James Bond. So, reasonably, one would think that he never went for the role because of his busy filming schedule and the high-impact role of Bond himself. WRONG.
In a recent Reddit AMA, Brosnan recalled being offered the part and promptly turning it down.
I went and met with Tim Burton for the role of Batman. But I just couldn't really take it seriously, any man who wears his underpants outside his pants just cannot be taken seriously. That was my foolish take on it. It was a joke, I thought. But how wrong was I?
It's almost heartbreaking to think that this could have been possibility, but life is what it is.
