Absorbing Man is a classic Marvel super villain usually seen battling Hulk or Thor. Carl "Crusher" Creel was a boxer and convicted criminal before Loki transformed him into Absorbing Man, giving him the power to emulate whatever material he touches, making him a worthy adversary of most heroes. Armed with his ball and chain, he serves as one of Loki's minions, terrorizing various worlds.
Brian Patrick Wade has been confirmed to be playing the role of Absorbing Man in the upcoming season of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.", which is set to premier on September 23. He and fellow newcomers Lucy Lawless (Agent Isabelle Hartley) and Adrianne Palicki (Mockingbird) will be joining the cast, featuring Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Brett Dalton as Agent Grant Ward, Chloe Bennet as Skye, Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May, and Iain de Caestecker and Elizabeth Henstridge as Agents Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons.
Now Absorbing Man's origins stem from Loki lacing a drink with Asgardian ingredients, but "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." hasn't yet had any guest stars with the stardom of actors such as Tom Hiddleston, save a one-episode appearance by Jaimie Alexander reprising her role as Lady Sif, so the story of how Absorbing Man came to be will likely differ from the comics.
