The Harry Potter universe had thought the film series had ended with the release of the final instalment Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 in summer 2011. The last movie marked the epilogue to Harry Potter's longtime rivalry against his villain Lord Voldemort. Surprising fans and critics J.K. Rowling was announced to be penning the script to the adaptation of her companion book [Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them](movie:1112558).

Slated for release in November 2016, the series centered around magizoologist Newt Scamander who documents his findings and adventures of magical creatures in the titled book. The first Fantastic Beasts film will be one of three over a planned trilogy.

As news continued to be mulled over by the media, it was at first rumored that Prisoner of Azkaban director Alfonso Cuaron would return to the magical series. It was news that was quickly denied by the studios and the director himself.

We finally have confirmation from Variety that Harry Potter alumni director David Yates will be helming the next Harry Potter related franchise. The director worked on the last four films of the series including Order of the Phoenix, Half Blood Prince, Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Deathly Hallows Part 2.

There is no word yet on who has been or will be cast as the main character, but here at Movie Pilot we have picked out several potential rising stars for the job.
