It looks like Steven Spielberg’s 2002 sci-fi movie Minority Report will be hitting the small screen! They’re pulling out all the stops for this show, you guys. Spielberg will be directing the show himself, Max Borenstein (Godzilla) will be penning it, and, according to The Wrap’s report, will “focus on the elite PreCrime unit, with Spielberg expected to target a name actor for the lead, just as he did with Halle Berry on CBS’s sci-fi series Extant.”

So we’ve got a great writer, director, and likely a big name actor. Sounds like this should go off without a hitch! Right? Well, hopefully. there’s only one thing that I’m a little worried about... I loved Minority Report, but one of the best things about it was all of the crazy awesome technology!

Today, we are lucky enough to live in a world where the cinematic ideas of futuristic technology are a reality (but still no hoverboards…what’s up with that?). Since the movie came out twelve years ago, they’re going to have to seriously amp up their game!

It looks like we're far exceeding the film's expectations considering it is set in 2054! Just take a look at some of the things that seemed nearly impossible all the way back in 2002, but exist now!

Gestural Interface

I remember watching this movie in 2002 and thinking that the touchscreen hologram computer was the coolest thing ever. It seemed only possible in the way distant future! But here we are in 2014, and I practically carry around one of these bad boys in my pocket every day! Sure, my phone might not be quite as cool, but check out what the people over at Oblong Industries are up to!

How crazy is that?? It won't be long until every surface can become a computer. Thank goodness for that because lugging around my tiny MacBook Air is just way too much work!

Face Tracking and Tailored Ads

This one always scared me a bit. Apparently marketing in the future becomes a lot easier. In the movie, the technology is able to use facial recognition to tailor the ad it displays to the person reading it. Well the future is NOW because that is totally a thing!

As of right now Amscreen is only able to detect things like gender and age, but it sounds like it won't be too long until I only get to see the ads that I care about. Great! Looks like it'll only be Apple products and Taco Bell from here on out!

Guided Cars

In the film, Tom Cruise is able to just pop into his car, tell it where to go, and he can just kick back and enjoy the ride! No fuss, no muss, no traffic. Some people love to drive. I am not one of those people (doesn't help that I live in Los Angeles). So this would be my dream. Ahh if only my dreams would come true. Oh wait a minute, THEY ARE! The lovely people at Google are working on prototypes for autonomous vehicles! Check out just how awesome this car is.

So much more room for activities! Goodbye steering wheel! I won't miss you. Some sources say it might take up to 25 years before self-driving cars rule the road, so it sounds like I'll still be Ubering back from bars for now. But at least we know that this is a thing and it's happening!

Considering how accurate the movie was in predicting the technology of 2014, I'm so excited to see what they come up with! I guess that as long as they include the crazy sonic gun, I'll be happy.

So what do you guys think about the upcoming [Minority Report](series:2213845) TV show?
