DC and Warner Bros. are currently trying to catch up to Marvel Studios with building a shared cinematic universe. At the moment, only two movies are officially in the works at DC with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and The Justice League. Zack Snyder is also the only director at the center of both of these movies (well, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is also rumored to direct Sandman). Warner Bros. needs a lot more writers and directors working on DC movies if they hope to catch up with Marvel's movie count. Here are 5 directors I think would do a great job making DC superhero movies.
This is an obvious one. When Ben Affleck was signed on to play Batman/Bruce Wayne in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, I was disappointed that he wasn't hired to direct the new movie. It seemed odd that Warner Bros. would bring on Ben Affleck to star in a superhero film franchise at this point in his career, after winning an Academy Award for Argo and Good Will Hunting. However, it is believed that he will work behind the camera in one of these new DC movies, most likely The Batman rumored for 2019.
Along with Zack Snyder, Michael Bay, and James Cameron, Tarsem Singh is one of the most visually dynamic directors working in Hollywood today. While some of his movies fall narratively flat, there's no denying that he has a visual flare to all of his films, including The Immortals, The Fall, and Mirror, Mirror. With that in mind, I would love to see what he could do with an Aquaman movie! Just imagine what kind of underwater world Tarsem would bring to the big screen in 3D.
You might be unfamiliar with her name, but it's more than likely that you're not unfamiliar with her work. Michelle MacLaren is a director working on some of the hottest TV shows on television today, including Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, and The Walking Dead. It's time that a woman helm one of these superhero movies and Michelle MacLaren is the perfect candidate for the job. She's also an Emmy Award winner! I can see her directing a Wonder Woman movie, or any movie in the DC Cinematic Universe for that matter.
Richard LaGravenese is a journeyman filmmaker in Hollywood with screenwriting credits on The Fisher King, A Little Princess, and Water for Elephants. While he's written more movies than he's directed, you can find his director's credit on movies such as Living Out Loud, Beautiful Creatures, and the upcoming The Last 5 Years musical movie. I think he could be a great fit for Shazman, namely for his visual eye in with the fantasy genre. This movie need a director who is good at capturing a strange new world and LaGravenese is more than capable of delivering a fantastical film for a general audience.
What is there to say about George Miller. He's the visionary filmmaker who brought Mad Max, Babe: Pig in the City, and Happy Feet to the big screen. Miller is also the second Academy Award winning director (he won for Happy Feet) on this list, aside from Ben Affleck. If Mad Max: Fury Road is the big smash hit Warner Bros is hoping for, then there's going to be more high profile movies in the future for George Miller. While Zack Snyder is directing The Justice League, I can see him taking on its sequel or the rumored Flash & Green Lantern team-up movie.
What do you think? What directors do you think should make DC movies n the future?
