Fans lashed out at Kardashian sisters Kim and Kendall recently, as it looked like the pair were texting during a heartfelt Video Music Awards tribute to the conflict in Ferguson where police and demonstrators have been clashing, violently.
MTV used the occasion over the weekend to highlight the ongoing civil rights struggles in Missouri. The network aired public service announcements reflecting on the protests that have erupted following the police shooting of unarmed 18-year-old boy, Michael Brown, earlier this month.
Coincidentally, a few months ago Kim wrote a blog post where she admitted that she had never given racism any thought until she experienced a certain situation with her baby:
I feel a responsibility as a mother, a public figure, a human being, to do what I can to make sure that not only my child, but all children, don’t have to grow up in a world where they are judged by the color of their skin, or their gender, or their sexual orientation. I want my daughter growing up in a world where love for one another is the most important thing.
So the first step I’m taking is to stop pretending like this isn't my issue or my problem, because it is, it’s everyone's.
But despite Kim declaring that the issue of racism had finally gotten her attention, the wife of Kanye West was totally busted during the moment of silence.
The Kardashian crew apparently talked amongst themselves, texted, and looked generally bored while the presenter asked the audience to take a moment of silence for Mike Brown.
And BTW, many news outlets have reached out to MTV to confirm that the footage of the Kardashians texting happened during the moment of silence and wasn't, in fact, on a delay.
Perhaps they were just Googling what Ferguson was... !?
And I thought I had reached my limit of disbelief for these divas! On the other hand, when you're THAT famous for being THAT much of a princess, such behavior is not only expected, but acceptable... Right?
