After stirring up rumors of an Originals crossover in The Vampire Diaries season 6, executive producer of both show, Julie Plec, has finally confirmed that it will definitely happen!
Just a few days after letting slip that there was a possibility of a crossover, Julie Plec has confirmed that there will be a visitor from [The Originals](series:833141) universe sometime in the first half of the season. Plec told Entertainment Weekly that;
It looks like we are going to be able to do a crossover in the first half of the season, and I can't tell you what or who or when because it hasn't been shot yet, but things are looking good
Although she was sparse on details, Plec did mention that Alaric will definitely not be involved.
Along with revealing the crossover, Julie Plec also announced that she will be taking on a new role as the director of some episodes in [The Vampire Diaries](series:200853) season 6. When questioned on why it took her so long to make this step, the ever modest Plec admitted it was because she lacked confidence. The executive producer explained that;
I was convinced I would be dreadful at it. I directed a school musical in college and it was being so terrible at directing that made me realize I was such a good producer and that put me on my first career path. Then I had to remind myself that I also thought I would positively never be a writer because I thought I was a terrible writer for years…And then I actually started writing and thought, 'Oh actually, I'm pretty good at this, at least intermittently good at this. The beauty of television, much more than feature films, is that when you are the show runner, you make all those decisions anyway … Everybody seemed really excited to see what I could do behind the camera. So I'm gonna dive in and see how it goes
After the success of Paul Wesley's directorial debut, I always welcome seeing somebody new inject their own creativity into Mystic Falls, so I can't wait to see Plec's efforts!
Are crossovers a good idea?
