The past few weeks have been a field day for most Star Wars movie fans: Harrison Ford looks fully recovered in his ice bucket challenge video (meaning he's all set to get back to Han), we saw possible character designs for the upcoming films and heard rumors of a major flashback involving none other than Darth Vader himself. This week kicks off no different, with news on a major player coming back for another go at our favorite rebels.

Latino-Review reports that several of their sources have confirmed the return of Emperor Palpatine, who apparently survived his death at the hands of Darth Vader in Return of the Jedi.

I KNOW BOWIE, I'M WEIRDED OUT TOO.

But fear not! The movie is shaping up to have more villains than you can shake a lightsaber at, with Palpatine at the helm of them. From what plot rumors detail, Palpatine is more than likely back in the role of puppetmaster, and using the Inquisitor(s) to help the dark side make a comeback.

According to IndieRevolver, this particular leaked image is NOT Palpatine. While it would make sense for Palpatine to have gotten a little cyborg-tastic during rehabilitation, it's also important to keep in mind that this dude has been said to have powers that we still haven't seen. While his signature lightning is something of a staple, creepy old man Palpatine probably has some regenerative tricks up his pitch black sleeve.

YOU KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN?!

With Luke allegedly being held captive by the Jedi-hunting Inquisitors, one can only guess what another confrontation between he and Palpatine would be like (hint: it would be freaking epic). If Luke were to find out that the man his father died trying to kill was still alive, I don't think he'd sit still and let the guy keep living. Which is why, if all of these rumors are somehow true, Luke could have possibly been captured on purpose (something he's successfully done before, mind you).

The ol' loop-de-loop.

Regardless, production on Episode 7 is in full swing, and we're on track for a 2015 release. Goodbye money; hello, Tatooine!

Star Wars: Episode 7 hits theaters on December 18th, 2015.
