Hawkeye just seems to be getting all the attention lately! As the only Avenger yet to have a major role outside of one of the ensemble Avengers films, pressure from the fans has been building over the years for the arrow-shooting Avenger to get something important on the big screen, whether it be co-star in another hero's solo film series like Black Widow did with Captain America, or even for him to get a solo film of his own! Renner was recently featured in Empire Magazine with director Joss Whedon on the set of [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](movie:293035).
When Jeremy Renner, the actor behind the hero, was asked when we might actually see a major role for him outside of the Avengers films, Renner gave a very intriguing response:
There are rumblings of Captain America 3. I don’t know what’s going to happen there. I’ve got to find the time, man (laughs). I’m trying to stay home and I can’t.
The best part about this is that when Renner says rumblings, he isn't talking about fan speculation: he's talking about ideas mentioned from the Marvel Studios executives themselves. After Renner revealed these "rumblings", Captain America 3's directors, Joe & Anthony Russo, were asked about Hawkeye and his potential involvement in the film. There answer also leaves us with a hopeful feeling that might just mean there's a real possibility for the team-up.
There are certainly characters that Cap is close to or has a strong relationship with that would make sense appearing in his films. I think that’s all we can say about it.
Would his involvement mean Black Widow's exit from the third film, or would he simply be yet another addition? Either way, it's time he get some more screen time right?
Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters next year on May 1st, 2015.
Should Hawkeye star in Captain America 3?
