[Game of Thrones](movie:817617) director Neil Marshall recently took both the series' fans and Marvel film fans by surprise when he expressed a new interest in helming a Marvel Studios solo film of one of the only current Avengers without a solo film: Scarlett Johansson's character Black Widow.

I would love to do a Black Widow movie. That’s perfect, I would love to do that. That character is really interesting, she doesn’t have any superpowers, she just has extraordinary skills, and the world that she comes from, being this ex-K.G.B. assassin, I find that really fascinating.

While some argue that Marvel Studios' attempts at a Black Widow film were combined with this past year's box office hit [Captain America: The Winter Soldier](movie:254973), others argue that this is just the beginning to the possibilities of a movie all to herself.

Despite the lack of signs that usually prelude Marvel's announcement of a movie, Kevin Feige has suggested that fans' recent movements for a major push for female-lead films could very well influence the films they plan on releasing in the years to come.

While we wait for a solo film, make sure to see Black Widow in the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron next year on May 1st, 2015!
