Sherlock enjoyed a successful Emmys last night, taking home 3 awards, including wins for actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as well as show co-creator and writer Steven Moffat.

Unfortunately, neither Benedict or Martin was present at the ceremony, but thankfully Moffat was on hand to accept his award for Outstanding Writing For A Miniseries, Movie Or a Dramatic Special for Sherlock: His Last Vow. Upon winning, he teased further information on the forthcoming season 4 of the BBC hit series.

The fourth season is due to start production in January 2015, and Moffat is confident that it will be the best one yet. Building on the bombshell reveal at the end of season 3, Moffat reportedly left the cast in tears upon hearing the new plans:

We have a plan to top it — and actually I do think our plan is devastating. We practically reduced our cast to tears by telling them the plan. Honestly, Mark [Gatiss] and myself are so excited with what we've got coming up, probably more excited than we've ever been about Sherlock. … Honestly I think we can [top the last season]."

He also spoke candidly about the success that Sherlock has enjoyed in America, especially with the recent three Emmy awards:

“We’ve won outside of America, which is a place. We were just starting to think that that phase of our lives was dying down because as shows get older they don’t win as often — just like people. We’re delighted that we’ve made it here and hopefully this gets more people watching. That’d be great.”

With the massive hordes of dedicated fans, it comes as no surprise that Sherlock is still winning critical appeal outside the borders of its own countries. With stellar performances from both rising stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman (duly awarded) coupled with incredible writing by Gatiss and Moffat, the show can only improve.

Here's to the fourth season!
