From the director of the 2012 Maniac remake comes a brand new take on one of the most iconic haunted house films ever made. Released in 1979 and based on a "true" story, The Amityville Horror chronicled the murders of the DeFeo family at the hands of their oldest son and the subsequent (alleged) haunting of the house. While the supernatural events that took place in the house have since been almost certainly debunked, The Amityville Horror is still considered to be one of the most effective and terrifying haunting films ever made. So naturally... it's time for a sequel!

You have a terrible real estate agent.
You have a terrible real estate agent.

Starring Bella Thorne, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Cameron Monaghan, Amityville: The Awakening focuses on a single mother who, without knowledge of the home's history, moves into the infamous murder house with her two children: one of them in a seemingly vegetative state. Given the extensive history of the house AND the fact that thanks to the Amityville House, an entire freaking law was drafted requiring real estate agents to disclose stigmatized property, the premise of this film is a little silly.

Always with the flies.
Always with the flies.

However, given director Franck Khalfoun's exceptional sense of style, Amityville: The Awakening could still be an interesting film. Only time will tell for sure, but in the meantime, you can watch the trailer below and decide for yourself!

Do YOU believe the Amityville house was really haunted?
