A lot has now been revealed about Gal Gadot and Wonder Woman in Batman vs Superman Dawn Of Justice. We know what her costume will look like and we have also seen pictures of Gal Gadot in character as Wonder Woman's secret identity, Diana Prince.

What we don't know, however, are the origins of Wonder Woman. Let's run through some of the possibilities:

Will Wonder Woman have an origin story in Batman vs Superman?

One fact that has come of of Batman vs Superman and got fans excited is that this movie is expected to feature a significantly older Batman than audiences are used to, perhaps something in line with the iconic Frank Miller The Dark Knight Returns comic.

According to reports, to most people Batman is little more than a myth. He has not been seen in years, if not decades. Accordingly, there will be no need to a Batman origins story. Could Zack Snyder take a similar tack with Gal Gadot and Wonder Woman?

Some rumors suggest that Diana Prince, Wonder Woman's secret identity, will actually be working for LexCorp - and possibility coming under scrutiny at some point from investigative reporter Lois Lane. Does this mean that, as with Batman, we will simply have accept Wonder Woman's existence, as with Batman? Or does the fact of her supernatural powers mean that more of an origin/explination for her is needed?

Themyscira or Krypton - the possible origins of Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman: is that Krypton, or Themyscira?

One ways way out for the writers of Dawn of Justice would be to tie the supernatural Wonder Woman origins in with that of Superman. This has been suggested before, but it has not proved a popular option with fans.

According to this theory, Supergirl or Kara Zor-El was sent to earth from Krypton over thousands of years before the events of [Man of Steel](movie:15593). She explores earth, and finding it barely inhabited she sets of a birthing pod where she can breed her young. This area becomes known as "Themyscira" as the decedents of Krypton as The Amazons. Wonder Woman, in this telling, is essentially a distant cousin of Superman.

The other option for Gal Gadot and the writers of Batman vs Superman is to make Wonder Woman an authentic Amazon, member of the ancient race of warrior women known and feared by the Greeks.

Of course, for both Superman and Wonder Woman to have supernatural powers might be a little implausible for audiences. Then again, if Zack Snyder and DC are expecting to introduce [Aquaman](movie:264237), The Flash, Green Lantern and who knows else for the [Justice League](movie:401267), supernatural powers might just have to become an accepted fact of the DC cinematic universe.

So what is Themyscira, and can we expect to see it in [Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice](movie:711870)?

According to latest reports, some of the movie will take place in the homeland of Wonder Woman, the shooting for which is currently underway in Morocco.

Themyscira is an idyllic city state populated by the Amazons, a race of warrior women. There are different interpretations of it's origins, but what is clear is that all of the women of Themyscira are blessed with immortality, great strength, fined tuned senses, beauty, wisdom, and love for one another. Wonder Woman is their emissary on earth.

So which of these origins would you most like to see for Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, or do you think that they should leave any explanation until the stand alone Wonder Woman movie? Write in with your thoughts below the line!
