The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has taken the world by storm! What is ALS and this Ice Bucket Challenge you are asking? Well if you have been living under a ROCK, here is some "news" to enlighten you. According to Alsa.org:
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease," is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed.
As far as the Ice Bucket Challenge goes, someone is nominated to take a bucket of ice over the head and with that nomination comes a donation to the charity that is involved. It was all started to raise awareness and funds for the charity, and so far it has gone viral from regular people, to celebrities, to even animated celebs?
Homer Simpson of [The Simpsons](series:200695) has taken the challenge and I must say is it the funniest and coolest (no pun intended) I have seen:
Nice going Fox. Two thumb up for you for doing this! So far the challenge has raised over $88.5 Million and that number will rise! If there was ever a fad that had a meaning it's this. Remember Planking? Pssh...
If you have been nominated. Good Luck!
