I know a few things..

In January 2008 the WGA (writers guild of America) went on strike and superhero movies were changed forever. The strike forced the postponement and eventual cancellation of Warner Brother's George Miller directed "Justice League: Mortal", a film which was thisclose to beginning principal photography. Sets were built, costumes designed and most important.. casting was completed.

The script is easily available online with a quick google search and many articles have been published discussing the plot. The public reception of that film would have surely been a factor in where the entire genre and WB in particular would be today. Imagine if you will how Marvel would have positioned "The Avengers" had "JL: Mortal" failed or succeeded .. One film could have killed the entire genre!

I was wondering where the actors who were chosen to fill those iconic roles (and tights) ended up and whether or not there is a future for them in the DCCU?

DJ Cotrona as Superman

DJ Cotrona was set to be the new cinematic Superman after Brandon Routh's outing in "Superman Returns". Obviously WB was keen on establishing even back then, that this was not a story connected to previous films. "Returns" is clearly not just a nod to Richard Donner's "Superman" and it's sequel "Superman 2" it is pretty much itself a sequel. While "Mortal" was not to be an origin story, it was also not rooted in the previous;y established film canon. Alas this film would have been the big break Cotrona still needs. He has since been in two TV shows "Detroit 1-8-7" and "From Dusk til Dawn" the TV series. Interesting note: In "Dusk til Dawn" he plays Seth Gekko a role played in the original Robert Rodriguez film by one time Batman George Clooney. His only recent movie role was in "GI Joe: Retaliation" playing Flint. It looks like this role would have greatly changed his career had it been well done.

Armie Hammer as Batman

Armie Hammer as Bruce Wayne/Batman? But wasn't there already a Batman in Chris Nolan's films by the name of Christian Bale? Yes, but it was made clear and looking back now you can say this reinforced that Bale was only going to be donning the cape and cowl for Mr. Nolan's trilogy. Hammer is a big guy, much like current Batman Ben Affleck. He has found some success with standout roles in "The Social Network" (playing twins) and "J.Edgar" but his biggest role was as "The Lone Ranger" 2013 which was not well received at the box office. His next role is in "Man from UNCLE" starring alongside..current Superman Henry Cavill!

Megan Gale as Wonder Woman

Megan Gale, a beautiful model/actress was set to be the first actress to portray Diana/Wonder Woman since Linda Carter in the TV show of the 70's. She has even less acting credits than Gal Gadot. However, I do not remember the internet having the outcry and negative reaction that Gadot has received since she was announced for the role in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice". Obviously Miller saw something special within her abilities as she is to play a character named Valkyrie in "Mad Max; Fury Road" when it releases next year.

Santiago Cabrera as Aquaman

Santiago Cabrera was known for roles in NBC's "Heroes" as well as the TV show "Merlin" when he was chosen to play Arthur/Aquaman. Since that time he is best known for appearances in "Dexter" and "The Musketeers". Much like rumored current choice Jason Momoa this could have been a breakout role. One can only wonder if this film would have pushed any of these actors to the next level of success or totally derailed their budding careers.

Common as Green Lantern

We have no confirmation that either John Stewart or Hal Jordan will be the DCCU (DC Cinematic Universe) ringbearers. There is unofficial news of a Green Lantern/Flash focused film somewhere in the list of DCCU untitled releases. Even so, we do not know if Ryan Reynolds will be back as Hal Jordan or if the role will be recast. Common is widely known for his music career as a Chicago based, Grammy winning "conscious" rapper. His acting credits since 2008 include "Wanted" and "Terminator: Salvation" as well as the AMC TV show "Hell on Wheels". When fancasts pop up for the role of Stewart most fans are still quick to throw his name back into the ring.

Adam Brody as The Flash

The Flash is said to be a secret role in "Batman v Superman" with no confirmation on who has been cast as the Fastest Man Alive! Brody has been working quite a bit in TV for the past few years with "Burning Love" and "House of Lies" but only a few film credits "Lovelace" and "Scream 4" most notably.

Outside of Common one could say that this film was going to have a "CW" vibe to it with younger faces in the roles. With Affleck's Wayne being revealed to be "in his late 40's to early 50's" it seems like tonally this initial foray into the DCCU may have been more in line with "Green Lantern" 2011 than "Man of Steel" 2013.

Poll

Do you think these actors can still be placed in roles in the "Snyderverse" DCCU?
