Regardless of what "side" you're on in the neverending cinematic war between The Big Two of the comics kingdom, you have to admit that there's something refreshing about the actors within the Marvel pool. Regardless of how many movies are made and how many IMDB credits are listed, newcomers to Marvel films are often welcomed with open arms, and many of the cast members are good friends.
So, what Robert Downey Jr. had to say about [Guardians of the Galaxy](movie:424073)'s monumental success came as no surprise (okay, maybe a tiny, delightful one):
"[Guardians of the] Galaxy in some ways is the best Marvel movie ever,” Robert Downey Jr. told the press at the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of The Judge.
“And it’s odd for someone with — on occasion — an ego the size of mine to actually say that! We’re talking about how the Iron Mans and the Thors and the Captain Americas and the Avengers movies have afforded Marvel the opportunity to essentially take what was a third-tier, minor, kind of upstart bit of potential from one of their comic books series and say: ‘Look!’ It’s like you have a great quarterback, and his brother plays for another team, and then you say: ‘Look, this is their second cousin and we think he has a great arm and he should start.’ And then he goes and wins the Superbowl!"
Well said, Mr. Stark! It's always incredible to see the Marvel veterans (RDJ especially, being such a staple of their cinematic universe thus far) giving credit where it's deserved.
Camaraderie and personality pack the pool of Marvel actors almost to the brink. Here are a few more great examples of that!
You Have My Signature
A lot has been said about the format of Avengers cast interviews in the past, where Scarlett Johansson often received questions about her diet and workout routine (which she herself has termed as "rabbit food questions") while her male co-stars fielded questions about their acting methods and characters. So when Mark Ruffalo caught sight of Marvel fans' complaints on the subject, he gladly responded:
RDJ and Mark Ruffalo are totally (Science) Bros IRL
The IRL friendship of these two actors is no secret: Mark Ruffalo once commented on how RDJ helped him through a tough personal tragedy, and later expressed excitement over Tony and Bruce's "science bros" friendship.
Chris Pratt is a fanboy with THEORIES!
... and you'd think some of the stuff we speculate on is whacky.
Scarlett Johansson thinks Chris Evans is the Coolest Dude
When asked about her friendship with Evans on [Captain America: The Winter Soldier](movie:254973) , Scarlett Johannson said:
“I’ve known Chris for 10 years and this is our fourth movie together. Even though the circumstances of our lives have changed and we’ve moved and our careers have evolved, he’s pretty much the same. We have the same kind of rapport between us, the same short-hand, he’s just as goofy and earnest as he’s always been. He’s got a lot of humility to him and a great sense of humor. I think Marvel was lucky to have that history between us so they can exploit it for the film!”
The Guardians of the Galaxy cast is Super Supportive
If you haven't been keeping up with the press that the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy has done, you've been missing out. Outside of their incredible chemistry and comedic talents, the cast is also very supportive of each other.
Not to be outdone, the X-Men cast is pretty flippin' great, too!
It's always awesome to see actors having fun and being cool, genuine people. There's a ton of great stuff involving these casts on the internet (and tons that I haven't detailed here) so buckle down and watch some interviews today!
