After watching the highly anticipated [Fifty Shades of Grey](movie:391697) movie trailer last month, fans everywhere were rejoicing at the opportunity to see their favorite characters come to life on screen. Although Christian Grey has steamy qualities that leave fans aching for more, studies now show that Fifty Shades may have some negative consequences on fans and their health.

Fifty Shades of Grey research is ominous

Most would find it hard to believe that reading or watching Fifty Shades could have repercussions but Michigan State University found that those women who read the series "are most likely to have multiple sex partners and engage in binge drinking". Researchers found that by portraying violence and abusive relationships as normal behavior in the books, women were more likely to look for it in their own relationships as well. Researchers also found 75 percent have used diet aids, leading them to believe that the books may be the cause of a woman's negative self image.

Amy Bonomi, the survey's lead investigator, explained how the behaviors seen in the book may eventually influence real-life actions. "If [fans] read 'Fifty Shades' before experiencing the health behaviors seen in our study, it's possible the books influenced the onset of these behaviors." A pretty strong conclusion to hear for fangirls everywhere.

Although the results of this study are pretty conclusive, I'm not sure I'm ready to give up on my guilty pleasure. What about you?
