Having just finished filming the Season 5 mid-season finale, The Walking Dead executive producer Greg Nicotero has given an interview to The Huffington Post and dropped in some interesting tidbits about what we can expect in the upcoming season!
When asked whether or not Season 5 would rival the massive number of walkers that were involved in Season 4 (over 9,000!) he replied:
I can tell you that in the mid-season finale that we just finished shooting there were upwards of 800 walkers for just that episode. I haven't done the tally yet for this season, but being out in the world it's a little trickier to avoid zombies. When you're in the prison, you have a safe haven. The zombies aren't so much of an everyday occurrence, whereas in this season we're out in the world at some point so they're there.
Soooo, pretty safe to say we can expect another HUGE mid-season finale if there's going to be 800 walkers involved! Sharpen your knives and get out your guns, boys!
As well as being an executive producer and a makeup effects supervisor Nicotero also directs! He often includes 'tribute zombies' in his episodes with tributes to horror films like Mario Bava's Black Sabbath and George A. Romero's Day of the Dead. In Season 5, he confirms the tributes are set to continue:
In Episode 501 there is a tribute, but it's a little more subtle, and this time it's not necessarily a zombie.
We'll definitely keep our eyes peeled!
Lastly Nicotero was asked about how closely they will follow The Walking Dead comic books in Season 5 and whether or not it will head in the same direction. He replied:
We've been pretty loyal to the source material, but as the show has proven, we're able to take detours, concepts from the graphic novel and fine-tune them into the storyline of our show...We hit certain milestones from the comic book that are tailored to our show and our characters, and certain storylines that we see in the comic book we will see in various places through Season 5.
Hmm, I wonder which ones will make the cut!
These are some serious pieces of information for us to sink our teeth into! And now that we know Season 5 is halfway finished filming I just want them to hurry up and show it already! Just let me love you, Walking Dead!
What are you most looking forward in Season 5?
