Gareth Edwards Godzilla was one of the big movies this summer, and at San Diego Comic Con 2014, we learned that Legendary are already planning for Godzilla 2!

There were Easter Eggs hidden throughout Gareth Edwards Godzilla, referencing the possibility of other monsters - and at SDCC 2014 we were given a clearer indication of who these might be for the next movie:

Mothra, Rodan and Ghidorah: Let Them Fight

A video was shown at Legendary's Godzilla panel which showed blurry video of three Kaiju: Mothra, Rodan and Ghidorah. Then, a slogan came up, referencing the plan of Dr. Ishiro Serizawa in the first movie. Rather than attempt to battle Godzilla or the MUTO directly, his plan was "Let Them Fight".

Could this mean that we will see a battle of these four, Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan and Ghidorah? It would be a tantalising prospect. Alternatively, previous Godzilla movies have seen the four team up. Could we see them work together to battle the MUTO?

Monster Island, or Skull Island?

Gareth Edwards will not be getting straight to work on Godzilla 2 - instead he will be off making the planned Star Wars Spin Off, but could Legendary be planning a wider Monster Cinematic Universe, along the lines of what Marvel and DC are doing?

One reason this is being speculated is that plans have also been revealed for a Skull Island movie, which would see King Kong back in his habitat, battling all the creatures that are spawned in that environment. Could Legendary be building up to a King Kong vs Godzilla movie?

Gareth Edwards spoke about a Monster Island, and while he didn't reference King Kong, could this be the direction we are headed?

I just love the idea of a monster island. Having a world with these creatures in it. I find that fascinating and would like to treat that realistically. I wouldn’t want to limit it to one other foe, I think it’s more fun to – this question will come back to haunt me if we ever do a sequel – but I think multiple creatures make better movies

So do you think? Are Legendary building a wider Monster Cinematic Universe? Would that be something you'd want to see? Write in with your thoughts below the line!
