If, for some reason, you have forgotten what kind of villain Lex Luthor is, you may well be reminded soon enough: leaks from the set of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice have shown off a certain diner that Luthor once visited in the comics.
Ralli's may well just be an easter egg for the long-time comic fan, but those particular fans might remember it from a 1987 story in Superman titled "Metropolis 900 Mi." and penned by John Byrne.
In the story, Lex visits a local deli and offers his waitress, Jenny, $1 Million to "stay with him" in Metropolis. Jenny declines: she's married and has a home where she is, and argues that she doesn't need his money. Luthor then goes on to play the mind games he's so well known for, breaking down Jenny's psyche in a cruel display of his power.
He essentially rips Jenny apart for her own life choices (marrying her high school sweetheart, not going to college) and tells her that she has ten minutes to decide on whether she wants to stay with that lifestyle or live with him. Then - just as she's picking up the phone - she's told that he has already left.
For an evil genius, Lex sure does have a lot of time on his hands.
Whether or not this scene will actually play out is up in the air. Again, Ralli's diner could easily just be an easter egg for fans to giggle over fondly. Still, I could see a scene like this going really well with Jesse Eisenberg (as much as everyone seems very shaky about his casting). Eisenberg has already demonstrated his penchant for slightly unhinged monologues and antagonism in movies like The Social Network, after all!
[Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice](movie:711870) opens on March 26th, 2016.
