Law and Order: Special Victims Unit

Law and Order: Special Victims Unit was the spin off of Law and Order. Special Victims originally aired in 1999 and until this very day is still going. Law and Order aired in 1990 and finished in 2010.

This show introduces the Special Victims Unit, a new elite squad of NYPD detectives who investigate sexually related crimes.

Law and Order: The show follows a crime, usually adapted from current headlines, from two separate vantage points. The first half of the show concentrates on the investigation of the crime by the police, the second half follows the prosecution of the crime in court.

CSI: Miami

CSI: Miami is the Crime scene Investigation spin off. CSI: Miami finished in 2012 and originally aired in 2002. Crime scene Investigation originally aired in the 2000’s and is still going strong.

Crime Scene Investigation: An elite team of police forensic evidence investigation experts who work most of their cases in the city of sin, Las Vegas.

Saved by the Bell

Saved by the Bell is the spin off of Good Morning, Miss Bliss. Saved by the Bell aired 1989 and finished in 1993. Good Morning, Miss Bliss aired 1988 and finished 1989.

A TV show centered on six students and their years at Bayside High School in Pacific Palisades, California – Plot for Saved by the Bell.

Good Morning, Miss Bless takes place before "Saved by the Bell" with Zach, Lisa, and Screech when they were in junior high.

The Facts of Life

The Facts of Life is the spin off of Different Strokes. The Facts of Life aired 1979 and finished 1988. The program Different Strokes aired in 1978 and finished in 1986.

Later in the series, Mrs. Garrett is promoted to school dietician, and four of the girls move into new quarters above the cafeteria. Eventually she leaves the school and opens her own business, with help from her girls.

Angel is the spin off of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 1999 and finished in 2004 while Buffy aired in 1997 and finished in 2003.

Angel: The vampire Angel, cursed with a soul, moves to Los Angeles and aids people with supernatural-related problems while questing for his own redemption.

Buffy: A young girl, destined to slay vampires, demons and other infernal creatures, deals with her life fighting evil, with the help of her friends.

The Jeffersons

The Jeffersons is the 1975 spin off of the All in the Family show. Jeffersons finished in 1985 and the All in the Family show aired in 1971 and finished in 1979.

The Jeffersons: A nouveau riche, African-American family who move into a luxury apartment building develop close, if occasionally fractious, relationships with other tenants.

All in the Family: A working class bigot constantly squabbles with his family over the important issues of the day.

Star Trek: The Next Generation

Star Trek: TNG is a spin off of the Star Trek original series. The Next Generation aired in 1987 and only lasted till 1994. The shocking thing is that the original series aired in 1966 and finished in 1969.

The Next Generation: Set decades after Captain James T. Kirk's 5-year mission, a new generation of Starfleet officers in a new Enterprise set off on their own mission to go where no one has gone before.

Original series Star Trek: Captain James T. Kirk and the crew of the Starship Enterprise explore the galaxy and defend the United Federation of Planets.


Frasier is the spin off from the show Cheers. Frasier aired 1993 the same year that Cheers finished. Cheers started in 1982. Frasier finished in 2004.

Cheers: The regulars of the Boston bar 'Cheers' share their experiences and lives with each other while drinking or working at the bar where everybody knows your name.

Frasier: Dr. Frasier Crane moves back to his hometown of Seattle where he lives with his father and works as a radio psychiatrist.

Happy Days

Happy Days got their own spin off show in 1974 from the show Love American Style. Happy Days ended in 1984 and Love American Style finished the year that Happy Days was formed.

Happy Days: The Cunningham family live through the 1950s with help and guidance of the lovable and almost superhuman greaser, Fonzie.

Love American Style: An anthology comedy series featuring a line up of different celebrity guest stars appearing in anywhere from one, two, three, and four short stories or vignettes within an hour about versions of love and romance.

The Simpsons

The Simpsons originally aired in 1989 and is still going. Everybody’s favorite yellow family of six, (this was a huge surprise to me) the Simpsons, is actually a spin off of the Tracey Ullman Show that aired in 1987 and finished in 1990.

Simpsons: The satiric adventures of a working-class family in the quirky city of Springfield.

Tracey Ullman Show: Tracey Ullman was born on December 30, 1959 in Slough, Berkshire, England as Trace Ullman. She is an actress and writer, known for the Corpse Bride (2005), The Tracey Ullman Show (1987) and Small Time Crooks (2000). She was previously married to Allan McKeown.
