Jay Sebring was a famous hairdresser who also happened to be friends with Sharon Tate and at her residence on that fateful night in 1969. This unfortunate fact has relegated him to the "other" category. Sebring's nephew, Anthony DiMaria, is tired of seeing headlines with 'Sharon Tate and Four Others Killed' so he has been working on a documentary to shed light on who Jay Sebring was.
Born October 10, 1933 in Birmingham, Alabama, Sebring was a celebrated hair stylist who worked with the who's who of Hollywood and was known for his work on The Great Escape and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Though Sebring and Tate had once dated, the two remained close friends after her marriage to Roman Polanski.
Di Maria has been working on this documentary in the hopes of bringing attention to the man that his uncle was, telling People magazine, "So much fascination and attention has been paid to the crimes and the killers, but for our families, the killings are a life sentence." That truly is a heartbreaking statement and sad comment on the reality that one person's death could be "more important" than another's simply because one was an on the rise star.
