Slowly, we are being drip-fed details from the upcoming Terminator 5: Genisys, and if the rumors are anything to go by, this could be the best movie in the series for many years.
What we are clear on so far are the main facts of the story. We know that the movie will be set pre-Judgement day, and before the apocalyptic rise of Skynet. It will feature [Game of Thrones](movie:817617) Khaleesi Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, and Jason Clarke as her son John Connor, who has presumably travelled back from the future.
The movie is expected to revisit iconic scenes from the first two movies, even potentially reversing the plot of 1984's The Terminator by retroactively having Arnold Schwarzenegger's T-800 in that movie in fact be trying to PROTECT Sarah Connor, rather than kill her.
This much is, more or less, a given. What is less clear however are the roles of 2 or 3 new characters, who could have a large part to play in the plot of the [Terminator Genisys](movie:34872)!
J. K. Simmons: Alcoholic Cop?
The star of HBO's Oz and Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy is expected to play a hard-boiled, alcoholic detective (ever seen one of those before?), who is tracking the strange and inexplainable events that keep happening to Sarah Connor.
His part may not be massive in Terminator 5 Genisys, but it is expected be a key part in the movies which follow - what part do you think the J. Jonah Jameson actor will play in the story of Skynet and mankind's battle against the machines?
Danny Dyson: Son of the Apocalypse
Played by Dayo Okeniyi (Thresh in the first [The Hunger Games](movie:44466) movie), Danny Dyson is the son of Miles Dyson, the Cyberdyne programmer who accidentally activates the robot apocalypse. Danny is a key friend of John Connor after the apocalypse.
Although some of the humans treat him with suspicion after the apocalypse (after all, his father got them into the mess they are in), John Connor remains loyal to Danny. Could Danny, a programmer like his father, even have a role to play in implanting a virus in the machines which would benefit mankind's struggle and redeem his family name?
Non-Humanoid Hunter-Killer: Hunting Sarah Connor?
The most famous Hunter-Killer is of course the Terminator himself, but seeing as Skynet seem to have all the humanoid robots which they send back through time fail in their mission, could the up the stakes and send some non-humanoid killing machines back through time?
This was apparently part of Terminator 4 director McG's plot for the fifth movie while he was still attached to the project. Now he has left, we'll see whether these robots have made the cut.
But what do you think is the most likely storyline for Terminator 5: Gensys? What are you most looking forward to seeing in this movie? Write in with your own thoughts below the line!
